It took several years to convince my parents that my brother and I could handle the responsibility of a dog. We agreed to help with training, walking, bathing, picking up after it, etc. All the things kids promise to do when begging for a pet. We were tasked with selecting the right breed. We got books from the library and searched through them to find which dogs met my father’s strict qualifications. Finally, we were down to two, and Dad vetoed one of them, leaving us with the possibility of adopting a Cardigan Welsh Corgi!
